Taking Care of Each Other

There are absolutely no words to describe the sadness we all feel.  The tragedy in Newtown is unfathomable.  I still have not been able to get my head around it.  Of course all of our hearts are breaking.  I wanted to check in on our little community to share some information and resources to help us all in the coming days.

If you and your family are looking for ways to express your support for Newtown, you can link up with Hearts to Newtown here.  You can also make  Twenty Promises.  You and your family can think of twenty or more promises to keep during the year.   They can be something as simple as thanking the postal worker for your stamps, sharing holiday candy (without complaining or eye rolling with a little brother or sister, clearing the table when it’s not your turn, or making a card for an elderly neighbor).  These are just two ways to share the love.

Also, please don’t forget to take care of yourself.  Your family and friends still need you.  It can be so hard to reconcile the cheery holiday music with all of the horror of last Friday.  It is important to give yourself permission to feel sad and happy and to experience and share the joy of the season.  If anything, this tragedy reminds us we are here to take care of each other, especially our most vulnerable members of society.  When Fred Rogers’ mother told him to look for the “helpers”, we should recognize that we are all helpers in own ways.  We are not helpless.  We can help each other.

Wishing you peace, comfort and joy,

Bill and The Larkin Painting Company Team
