Happy Veteran’s Day!

Happy Veteran’s Day!  I just wanted to take a moment to thank all of the veterans who have served and sacrificed for this country.  Wars and violence take a toll on all of us, but especially veterans and their families.  Thank you.  Thank you.  Thank you.

If you have a moment, please check out the Time magazine article link about Roman Baca, the Artistic Director of my granddaughter’s ballet school and company, Ballet Theatre Company in West Hartford, CT.  He is a veteran of the Iraq War, a Marine and a classical ballet dancer.  After serving his country in Iraq, he continues to serve others using his wisdom and art.  After returning to the U.S,. Mr. Baca returned to Iraq for several weeks to teach dance to children in the war-torn country.  In addition to ballet technique, Mr. Baca teaches his Ballet Theatre Company students about hard work, kindness, dedication, sacrifice, and respect.   He brings the stories of war back to the States through his NYC dance company, Exit 12.  His company was featured on the splash page of the National Endowment of the Arts website (page 3 of the slideshow), and he is featured in Time magazine.   He even puts his own military twist on the holiday classic The Nutcracker.   Mr. Baca and veterans like him remind us of what means to serve and truly give of oneself.  Thank you.
