Transform Your Wood Finishes!

Do you think it would be impossible to transform the look of your dark-stained trim? Do you worry that the results won’t last or that the dark stain will bleed through the new, lighter finish? Those are not unreasonable concerns. When you first look at a dark finish, change seems unimaginable. It feels like you will never be able to replace the dark finish with a lighter finish and transform the look from staid and outdated to lively and modern. Even though such a transformation appears to be out of the question, Larkin Painting can make it happen.

On this project, all of the window trim, wall and ceiling molding were stained with a very dark finish. In order to transform the look of the wood, we followed an exacting process to achieve the best results. First, we sanded all of the dark surfaces, every piece of window trim and each segment of molding. Our team also removed all of the gloss from each piece of wood. After deglossing, we used a special primer to make sure that the stain would not bleed through the lighter finish.  We use a specially-formulated, shellac-based primer to block the old, dark stain. After applying the primer, we inspected the trim and molding. We looked for any open seams and nail holes and filled them. This preparation stage requires thorough and careful execution. Our process ensures that the new finish will not bleed, chip or peel.
