Kitchen Cabinet Renewal

Is it time for a kitchen cabinet renewal? The look of your kitchen cabinetry can make or break your kitchen’s aesthetic and design. Cabinets are practical and necessary. However their sturdy practicality doesn’t mean that they cannot be a beautiful part of your kitchen too. Kitchen cabinets provide a place for your dishes, foodstuffs, and cooking tools. We use them every day, many times per day. They put up with greasy, sticky and grimy hands, and they take all sorts of abuse. Even using the wrong types of cleansers can wear down the sheen of kitchen cabinets. It is no wonder that kitchen cabinets need to be renewed and refreshed. cabinet repaint by larkin painting company

Our client’s cabinets were originally finished with an antique-style glaze. The glaze gave the cabinets a warm, brownish cream color. Now, they needed an update and some refurbishing after several years of  wear and tear. There are so many gorgeous colors and finishes to choose from that the choices can be overwhelming. No one wants to be stuck with a color or sheen that they will regret in six months.

Color is one of our specialties and we routinely provide color consultations to our clients. Our guidance helps them evaluate their color choices so that they can discover their favorite. On this project, we helped our client choose a soft white. This hue is brighter than the cabinets’ original, antique cream color, but is still a clean neutral that partners well with the wall color and appliances. White Dove by Benjamin Moore is a favorite white of ours and of many of our clients and design partners. We used the Advance Satin finish for this project. It gives the cabinetry a smooth feel and look.

To refurbish the cabinetry, we used our preparation process of sanding, cleaning, and applying bonding primer to the cabinets. Only after completing that process was it time to start painting. We applied two coats of paint.  Our client loved the effect, however she wanted more than paint on the cabinets, something to add a little more depth. We agreed and decided that we could add something special to the paint. To achieve this, we applied a Benjamin Moore Acrylic Glaze, tinted with the slightest amount gray paint. This mixture created a very subtle wash effect. It gave the cabinets a little more depth while retaining their fresh and contemporary look. The sheen created by the glaze definitely gives the cabinetry a crisp, modern and clean look.
