Color in Monet’s House

We have all heard of, and maybe you are even lucky enough to have visited Claude Monet’s garden at Giverny.  While the gardens are indeed a splendid work of art, you don’t hear as much about the interior of Monet’s house.  That is a shame because the artist used color boldly and creatively in his home.

Let’s take a cybertour of Claude Monet’s kitchen, dining room and sitting room.

The kitchen is tiled in beautiful blue and white, and you can see a peek of the brilliant yellow dining room.

Here is the dining room painted in two tones of yellow.  The blue plates in the cabinets provide an interesting pop against the yellow.  You can also see the green accent Monet placed expertly around the room, as well as the bold Japanese prints adorning the walls.  Let’s not forget the orange-red floor tiles.  It’s bold and it works.

Obviously, the artist enjoyed using blue in his home.  Here is a corner of his very blue sitting room.

Now of course you don’t have to paint your rooms two shades of blue or yellow, but Monet’s rooms are inspirational and provide excellent color notes and references.  We can all take a lesson from him and make our homes personally inspiring as well as visually appealing.  Claude Monet painted and decorated his home in a way that reflected and supported his lifestyle.  You can see his personality throughout.  Anyone can do this in a grand or modest style, whichever suits your personality and desires.  With some thought and exploration, you can create a home that makes your soul sing while truly reflecting who you are.

Best,

Bill
