Seeing Red

From time to time on The Larkin Painting Company blog, we will be exploring hue, otherwise known as color.  Since Valentine’s Day is in the offing, the color this week is red.  Yes, red.  I know the color red can conjure up thoughts of fast food joints and toy fire engines (well, I like the fire engines), but never fear.  Red can work beautifully in any space of your home – a den or family area, or even the kitchen.

Remember red comes in many values and intensities from fire engine red to salmon, from poppy red to pink, from burgundy to clay.  The color variations are endless.  The point is to play, to be comfortable with color in your home.  You can use as little or as much red as you like.  If you enjoy red, but are wary, think about using the warmer, more earthy values of red.  If you like the intense red, but you don’t want it on every wall, consider a pop of intense color.  That pop can be a smaller area of your wall.  It could be red furniture and accessories while the walls could be a more subdued color that smartly compliments that pop.   It’s up to you.

In the photo below, you can see different values of red-some darker, some lighter and some in between.

Take a peek at these red rooms.  Below the space uses orange-red accessories and furniture, while the walls are painted a complimentary blue.  They are blended beautifully to create a calm and relaxing room.

Here the walls are an intense red.  Even though the red used here is powerful and impressive, the space is inviting, warm, and relaxing.

To find the color red you prefer, look around your house, your favorite spaces, nature, your dinnerware, or wardrobe.  Color inspiration can be found anywhere and everywhere.  Take time to reflect upon how your favorite colors make you feel.  Have fun choosing your colors.  As always, at The Larkin Painting Company, we are here to help make your vision a reality.

Warm regards,
