Know Your Painting Contractor

Wow, summertime is almost over.  It’s unbelievable how time flies.  Now that summer is winding down, the kidlets have returned to school and fall is approaching, many of you are thinking of sprucing up the homestead.  How do you go about finding a painting contractor that you can trust?  How do you make the “sprucing up” experience as enjoyable as possible?  Yes, I said enjoyable.

Here are some guidelines for finding the right painting contractor for you and your home.  There are six things you need to consider when choosing your painting contractor.  They are:

1. Trustworthiness

2. Expertise

3. Craft

4. Personality

5. Vision

6. Cost

Of course, you need to be able to trust your contractor and his or her crew.  You need to have piece of mind as they move about and work on your home.  The contractor should be a professional and he or she should also be insured.  Your painting contractor should be a expert in the industry.  If you ask a question that can’t be answered in the moment, your contractor must have the available resources to find the answer for you.  Your contractor and the painting crew should take pride in their work.  They should respect and honor the craft.  There is simply no reason for you to  have a contractor who doesn’t care whether the cut lines are crisp or whether all of the cracks and failures in your wall have been repaired before applying paint.   Accordingly, a paint contractor should respect his or her crew and pay them a true living wage.  Your contractor should have a pleasant and appealing personality.  You shouldn’t dread the appearance of the paint truck coming around the corner.  Whether the project is big or small, you shouldn’t have to suffer with a cranky and mean contractor.  Your painting contractor should also have vision.  He or she should ask you meaningful, good questions about your lifestyle and vision for your home, and have the ability to turn your vision into reality.  You should of course take into consideration the cost of the project.  It is your hard-earned money and your investment in your home.  When considering cost, you should be sure to consider what quality, experience and product you are trading for your dollar.  Usually an “inexpensive” paint project becomes more expensive as your walls will need to be refurbished and repainted sooner.  Your potential contractor should give you a detailed description of the project requirements and a detailed estimate.  If he or she is vague on costs, then you need to look elsewhere for someone you can trust.

I have written about finding your perfect painting contractor in more detail in a previous blog post.  You can find the link for it here.  I hope this guide has been helpful to you.  If you have any questions and/or would like to set up an appointment, call me at (508) 740-6212, message me on Facebook, ask your question by filling out the “Contact Us” message box or the Get a Quote form on this website.
