Save Your Antique Windows From the Dump

Mary Ellen, one of Larkin Painting’s Project Managers and highly-skilled painters, is also an expert craftswoman. She specializes in unique and antique window restoration. Don’t worry; if your house came with ‘regular’ windows, Mary Ellen can repair those too. She restores the broken, worn and faded glass panes. Mary Ellen painstakingly reglazes the panes so that they shine and glow like new. She works in stained glass as an art form so she understands the material and knows how to address any problem that may pop up during the restoration process.

Often window problems are deeper than cracked or dull-looking glass. Old windows are infamous for being difficult, if not impossible, to open and close. Even though you may be able to pry them open and raise them, opening or closing a window should not require Herculean strength. Mary Ellen can diagnose window’s problems, find the sticky points, and repair them.

One problem she has addressed quite often are worn, frayed sash cords. Instead of replacing the old fiber sash cord with a new fiber cord, Mary Ellen replaces them with beautiful, durable copper or brass chains. The process is quite involved as she must take the entire window apart and put it back together. However, the result is astonishing.
