New Life for a Teak Wood Shower Floor

Our client has a very unique master bathroom. The walls are comprised of natural black stone tiles and the shower floor is made teak wood. The floor is divided into two removable pieces. The pieces are “plank-style” slats that allow the water from the shower to drain.

Teak

Teak is one of the most beautiful types of exotic hardwood available. The floors made from this wood are stunning and quite durable. Our client hired us to refinish his teak shower floor. It is an exquisite floor, but it has seen better days. In the ‘before’ picture, you can see the floor had lost its original lustre. Teak floors are quite durable and a gorgeous organic element for any bathroom. However, every year the floor needs to have the protective coating applied to keep the wood looking fresh and to bring out its deep, rich tones.

We couldn’t refurbish the shower floors while they were installed in the shower, so we took the flooring out of the stall and off site. We brought the planks to our shop. First we  sanded the wood and cleaned it with teak wood cleaner. After ensuring that the floor’s surface was smooth and pristine, we applied two coats of Sherwin Williams Superdeck Exotic Stain in the Walnut hue. This product is also perfect for Ipe, a Brazilian walnut, another beautiful exotic wood.

After the floor dried, we took it back to our client’s home and reinstalled it. It is ready for another year of showers. If you have exotic wood in your home that needs refurbishing, give us a call at 508.640.7212.

Be well,
