Classic Blue is Pantone’s 2020 Color of the Year

Color influencer, Pantone, recently released its 2020 Color of the Year: Classic Blue. This color looks like the dusky blue sky. The Pantone Color Institute selects the Color of the Year. The Institute is a unit within Pantone that has the hefty job of  forecasting worldwide color trends, featuring trendy runway colors, and helping companies choose their branding colors. Obviously, choosing the color of the year requires much thought. The Institute looks for color influences from every country and many industries. Laurie Pressman, the vice president of the Color Institute describes Classic Blue as “a color that anticipates what’s going to happen next. What’s the future going to bring as we move into the evening hours.” It is an enduring and timeless hue.

Interestingly, the Color Institute chose this color as a sort of beacon of calm and steadiness. It noted that the world feels unstable as we head into 2020, much like it did in 1999. There is always discord in the world, but there seems to be a global feeling of increased tension and worry. Pantone chose Classic Blue because it is a color that symbolizes connection, confidence, strength and comfort. When we think of blue, we think of refuge, of rest from the worries of the world. The color blue has been said to help focus and concentration. It is also a color that inspires faith and loyalty.

“Instilling calm, confidence and connection, [Classic Blue], highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.” ~ Pantone
