Johnson Paint Company is a family-owned paint supply business that has served our painting company for many years. Established in 1939, they are a fixture in downtown Boston and a vibrant member of the community. In 1995, French painter Andre Renoux, even painted a ‘portrait’ of their store. Johnson Paint is “New England’s most complete paint store”. The company primarily sells Benjamin Moore paints, but also feature other top-notch, quality paint brands such as Farrow & Ball, an exclusive paint brand manufactured in England. They have a very large inventory of products, including some things that are a little harder to find, such as Old Masters stains and polyurethanes, and a huge variety of unique primers and prep products that help us tackle any paint challenge. 

Johnson Paint is more than a paint supply store, they are our “tech” team, behind the scenes. Their expert staff is always  ready to answer questions about products, provide advice and troubleshoot different painting challenges. We often need to place unique paint and materials orders. Johnson Paint can special order whatever we need, and can readily supply even the most obscure paint brands and colors. Since we work all over the metropolitan area, the Cape and even as far as New Hampshire, their paint delivery service helps us maximize our efficiency.

Not only are they an amazing paint supplier, Johnson Paint is also expert in color matching. Accurate color matching is essential. Sometimes we do not know the name of the color we are trying to match. For example, often we need to replicate color on an already-painted surface when the color name is unknown. Some paint stores will use their machines try to achieve a close color match and leave it at that, but Johnson Paint always takes the extra steps to manually adjust the formulas until the color match is spot-on.

Johnson Paint has three locations in Massachusetts. Their flagship Newbury Street store (the oldest retail store on that street) also has a variety of metallic finishes that we’ve used on projects for some of our designers. We often refer clients to Johnson Paint when they need wallcoverings or fabrics, as they have an on-site color consultant to help customers choose the perfect hues for their spaces. The lighting in their stores is beautiful and helps when we look at color chips on the color chip walls.
