Color Trends-2021 ColorMix Forecast

What are the paint color trends for 2021? To say that 2020 has been a year of uncertainty, fear, and tumult for the entire world would be an understatement. Real-life informs interior design. Real-life informs which colors we choose for our walls, cabinetry, and furniture.

Pantone, the leading color trend expert, and decorative paint manufacturers will announce their colors of the year for 2021 in the coming weeks. In the meantime, Sherwin Williams gives us ColorMix Forecast 2021-their take on what the color trends will be for 2021. Taking into account the tumult and uncertainty of the past year, Sherwin Williams predicts that colors that represent rhythm and balance will be 2021 favorites. These favorites include “bold blues, muted reds, muddy greens, warm whites, and bright pinks,” and are featured in four separate color palettes. Each color palette provides a feeling of being grounded and safe. Each palette provides a balance between “virtual and physical, quiet and expressive, and fast and slow.”

The palettes are called Encounter, Sanctuary, Tapestry, and Continuum. Encounter includes colors that evoke a sense of old stories and heirlooms. The palette leans into natural, earthy tones with a modern bohemian flair. The colors are Java, Alabaster, Jubilee, Reddened Earth, Rosemary, and Hardware. They would work beautifully in a family room, den, office, or even a kitchen.

The palette Sanctuary reflects the idea of the healing power of nature and its ability to provide a sense of calm. We explored this idea previously in the blog. Colors in this palette include Oakmoss, Urbane Bronze, Canyon Clay, Pure White, Antiquarian Brown, and Bona Fide Beige. These are “flexible” colors for any room in your home or commercial space.

The next palette, Tapestry, spotlights expressive, bright, creative, and joyful colors. This palette is for you if you don’t want to use a neutral color palette in your space. If vibrance is what you crave, look no further than this collection of hues. Tapestry features colors like Jaipur Pink, Tricorn Black, Perfect Periwinkle, Alexandrite, Enjoyable Yellow, and Jovial. These colors will add pizzazz to any home office, nursery, kitchen, bathroom-literally any room in your home.

Sherwin and Williams’ fourth ColorMix palette, Continuum, explores how technology affects our lives, especially now since many of us depend on technology for school and work. These fabulous colors would be perfect for any room. We think about the walls of home offices and classrooms painted with colors such as Crushed Ice, Great Falls, Commodore, and Wishful Blue. Limon Fresco would be perfect for a kitchen or mudroom. Swimming would liven up any homeschool space.
