Farrow & Ball’s Featured Colors for 2021

Renowned paint manufacturer, Farrow & Ball, has released its featured colors for 2021. These attention-grabbing hues are sure to inspire. The manufacturer’s featured colors can be organized into four easy-to-explore categories: 1) Natural and Calming Green Hues, 2) Earthy, Warm Hues, 3) Jewel Hues, and 4) Simple, Clean Blue Hues.

Let’s explore the green palette first. Green is a beautiful color in nature, but it is often hard for humans to recreate and manufacture. Farrow & Ball have conquered this challenge with their interpretation of Sap Green, a notoriously difficult color to get right. This color evokes a more muted tone and calming atmosphere. The company created this color in collaboration with the Natural History Museum. Their take on this color was inspired by the underside of the Orange Tip Butterfly’s wings, and the leaves of the Night Shade plant. The aim was to create a lived-in and gentle, earthy atmosphere. Sap Green also enlivens and enriches the feel of small spaces such as hallways, porches, and powder rooms. Interestingly, using greens in hallways can make the rooms off of those hallways look bigger. Skimmed Milk is the perfect accompaniment for Sap Green. Also, be sure to check out Treron, which has a grey undertone, and Green Smoke with its slightly blue undertone.

Farrow & Ball’s jewel-inspired colors create a rich, relaxing, and luxurious atmosphere. Preference Red is Farrow & Ball’s richest and deepest red, inspired by the Baroque. It can be used for interiors and exteriors and evokes cozy feelings and memories. Clients with modern homes and spaces also use and love this color. Preference Red is paired strikingly with Paen Black or Sulking Room Pink. This color is bold, but it is also flexible and can be used in traditional or modern spaces. Deep Reddish Brown and Tanner’s Brown are more subdued hues that round out the jewel tones. They are strong yet subdued colors. You can also use these colors on built-ins and bookshelves. The possibilities are endless. 

Farrow & Ball also brought warmth to its earthy grey color, Jitney. Jitney was inspired by the hazy, muted colors of the beach. Grey is quite a popular interior design color. This gray, however, is not a cool, steely gray. Jitney combines light gray with the feel and hue of warm, sandy beach stone. This warm color works beautifully in any size space, and it bounces daylight around to create a cozy feel. This unique grey will transform any room into a reassuring haven. Two other interesting colors, Dead Salmon (what a name!) and India Yellow are perfectly aged and earthy and will lend a subtle ‘personality’ to your living room, bedroom, or even the busy mudroom or laundry room.

Paired with a bright white, this striking blue lends a chic look to a room. Blue is traditionally a color that symbolizes stability and strength. Dark and inky, Stiffkey Blue also energizes a space with its clear vivid hue. Pitch Blue, lively, and Ultra Marine Blue, a fresh blue, are two other Farrow & Ball blues to discover. These colors can be used on standalone kitchen islands, bookshelves, and other woodwork. Paired with grey and white, they provide a balanced and familiar atmosphere.
