Pastels: Chill Out with New, Refreshing Ice Cream Colors

We love the look of rich, deep saturated color. Caliente by Benjamin Moore, Stone Blue by Farrow & Ball and Repose Gray by Sherwin Williams are some very popular and on-trend colors. Not everyone wants deep color in their spaces and that is just fine. If you count yourself among that crowd, we have the perfect, refreshingly light pastels for you!

Even though dark, saturated color is on-trend for 2018, so are light and cool, pastel colors-ice cream colors. Shades of mint green, bubblegum pink, lilac, and peach remind us of  childhood trips to the ice cream parlor. Our happiness was wrapped up in delicious, creamy cool colors of fun ice cream flavors- purple cow, mint, bubblegum, strawberry, birthday cake, mango, and cheesecake to name a few.

Designers say the popularity of Millennial Pink sparked the pastel paint colors trend. No matter how the trend began, pastel colors are perfect for those who don’t like or want to experiment with deep colors. With pastel, ice cream colors, you can venture away from white and beige but still add stylish color to your space in a quiet and subtle way. For some, these colors, although they are light, might still push their limits with color. If an entire room painted bubblegum pink or purple cow (lilac) makes you nervous, you can paint an accent wall with the bright pastel. A small pop of color on an accent wall can elevate an otherwise neutral room.

If the pastels still seem too bright, you can choose a more muted shade such as Tunsgate Green, Vert de Terre, Peignoir (grayed pink) or Middleton Pink all by Farrow & Ball. For purples, Pale Iris and Misty Lilac and are perfect muted purple pastels. Creme Fraiche and Light Yellow are gorgeous pale yellows from Benjamin Moore. There are so many colors to explore.

You can use these colors for an interesting pop of color for your front door, or if you happen to have a bold color like Caliente in your space, a pastel can calm that bold look. Pastels are so versatile. You can create a kitchen straight out of the 1950’s with 50’s Pink or Mantis Green from Benjamin Moore. Pastels create a clean look. They can help make a featured piece of art pop. Pastels maximize natural light and brighten a room. The possibilities are limitless.
