Pops of Color

Spaces featuring pops of color are becoming more popular in the realm of home design and remodeling. My name is Christine DaSilva, The Larkin Painting Company’s color specialist. We are seeing more color in home design these days. Grays and neutrals aren’t necessarily losing steam just yet, but we have seen an increase in the use of pops of color. Many customers still choose to use neutral colors and grays in their spaces, but they also include a bright, pop of color as an accent. This pop can be an accent wall, a unique piece of painted furniture, or a piece of art such as sculpture or a painting.

Rosemary Sprig by Benjamin Moore

Often our clients have decluttered or remodeled a space. This new, clean, blank canvas inspires their creativity. After a deep cleaning or remodel, they are ready to use their space in a more purposeful way. They have received the gift of a renewed space and want to bring a bit of fun and personality to the space. Recently a client brought a lighthearted vibe to their space with a simple, but beautiful bench.

                            Bench Before

Our client chose a lively and fun green, Rosemary Sprig 2144-30, from Benjamin Moore. In certain lighting, the color looks like the skin of a juicy Granny Smith apple or the light green rind you find on the edge of a freshly opened watermelon. For this project, we used Benjamin Moore’s Advance Semi-gloss which gave the bench a smooth, fresh and fun look.

Wethersfield Moss by Benjamin Moore

Another marvelous pop of color is Wethersfield Moss HC-110 from Benjamin Moore. This color surprised me more than any other color has recently. Paint chips rarely do the color they represent true justice. That was very much true with Wethersfield Moss. The color on the paint chip does not really encapsulate all that the color can be on your walls. However, when we applied it to the walls of a Charlestown bedroom, the effect is revolutionary. The olive-toned green enhanced the beautiful wood furniture, The clients also paired a unique artwork with this rich green. The effect was beautifully unique and you could feel the personality of the homeowners.

So if you still love your grays and neutrals, but you also desire to infuse a little color, explore what an accent piece or wall can do for your space. Pops of color can make all the difference in your decor. If you would like to explore this design trend with a professional, give me a call at 508.740.6212.
