Stained Wood Vents
We recently built and stained wood vents for a gorgeous commercial building located on the Boston waterfront. The vents were destined for the lobby of the building. We have had the privilege to have served (painting and installing wallcovering) this office building for many years. The building had preexisting wooden vents installed in the ceiling, but the vents did not match the ceiling.
We sanded the new wood so that it would accept the coats of stain smoothly. We made sure that the new stain matched the ceiling exactly. We used a stain and a polyurethane blend that perfectly matched. We liked the use of both products blended into one for this project.
The most complicated aspect of this project was ensuring that the stain for the vents properly matched the ceiling. It takes a keen eye to match the colors and also to know when enough stain has been applied to the wood. One coat too many or one too few and the resulting color will be off-putting. For this project we used Varathane Stain and Polyurethane in Mission Oak hue.
