Make No Mistakes: Choose the Right Project for Your Home

How do you ensure that you make the right decisions when deciding which project or projects to tackle? You walk around your home and notice several spaces that could use some help-some more than others. There is the paint on your kitchen walls that seems to have a film on its surface. Then there is the trim in your dark hallway that has seen better days. Perhaps your stairway railing has lost its luster. The bathroom could use some updating and your child outgrew her Toy Story décor a long time ago. There is just so much. How do you decide which project to tackle first? Do you try to overhaul everything at once or take it one room at a time? How do you even begin to decide?

The Ideal End Result

You should consider what your ideal end result is for each room. What do you want your room to look like after the painters have packed up and gone? This is a necessary step. After you have a clear vision of what you want, what’s next? Do you paint all of the rooms all at once or just one or two? Also, it is important to resist the temptation to only paint the walls and leave the trim for a later time. It is much more cost effective and less intrusive to do all of the rooms or a few rooms in full (both walls and trim), rather than just paint the walls throughout and come back to each space later to paint the trim.

Of course, if having all of the rooms painted at once isn’t what you prefer, you can choose to have only one or two spaces painted in full. No matter how many rooms you choose to paint, it is crucial that the walls and the trim are painted all at once in order to contain costs, maximize efficiency and achieve a consistent and beautiful result for each space.

How Much Do You Use Each Space?

Now that you have decided whether to tackle all of your rooms or only one or two at a time, you should think about which rooms you enjoy the most and which rooms you use the most as you decide how to approach your project. If there is a room that you are not currently using that can be transformed into a welcoming family room, delightful crafting area, or a space that you are sure will get a lot of use after it is refurbished, you should also consider making that space a priority if possible. After completing a project, clients often tell us that, “I don’t know why we didn’t paint this room sooner given how much our family uses it!”

So there you have it, a simple, proven method of attacking those big decisions. If you have questions about what your project will entail or if you would like an estimate or a color consultation, give us a call at 508 740-6212 or fill out the “Let’s Get Started” form here.
