The Larkin Painting Exterior Painting Process
Our clients find that over time, especially in New England, the exteriors of their homes and commercial spaces need to be repainted. As with all of our clients’ projects, we have a process that ensures a beautiful paint job that reflects the vision they have for their home or business. Let us guide you through the Larkin Painting exterior painting process.
Surface Evaluation
First, we inspect the exterior along with all the exterior elements for any areas of concern and damage. As part of our best practices, we evaluate and notify our clients of any sections of the home that may require additional repair work. Finally, we confirm the scope of the project with our clients, gather the appropriate materials, and get started.
Cleaning
There is no use or point in painting a dirty exterior. Siding can harbor mildew and dirt. This may seem like a no-brainer, but exteriors must be washed until they are clean before prep even begins. We power wash houses so that they are thoroughly clean taking care to be gentle with the surface.
Surface Prep
We thoroughly scrape loose paint, again taking care to be gentle to the surface. After scraping, we sand the surface to a smooth finish. Next, we inspect the entire surface, checking for cracks and holes. If there are holes or cracks, we carefully fill and caulk them. After we ensure that the surface is smooth, we move on to the next step in the process.
Prime the Surface
We don’t waste materials or your time. We inspect the surface and document exposed areas. Then we prime these exposed areas. However, if necessary, we carefully coat the entire exterior with primer.
Apply Paint
Exterior paint color is an important choice for our clients. We provide guidance for what can be seen as a prickly step in the process. Sometimes our clients experiment with a few sample colors and then pick their favorite. We then apply paint to the body of the house (or commercial space), bulkhead, porch area, and trim.
Final Evaluation
We evaluate the work as we go along, but we also perform a final evaluation. We speak to our clients and ensure that they are happy with the experience and the final result.
