Christine is Running the Boston Marathon

Larkin Painting Company is lucky to have Christine DaSilva as an integral part of our team. Not only is she the Director of Business Operations, but she is also an accomplished athlete. Christine has been invited to run the historic Boston Marathon on Patriot’s Day! Congratulations Christine!

Christine says that the marathon is on the bucket list of many runners around the globe. Despite living in the Boston metro area and her dedication and love of running marathons (and longer distances), she could never really “wrap [her] head around it. The race has so much history and draws enormous crowds of runners.” Although she is a passionate runner, Christine thought that running on a charity team was not a goal within her reach. But now Christine has received this prestigious invitation and she is ready to go.

Not only is she running the marathon for the first time, but she is also running to benefit the Michael Lisnow Carter Respite Center. Although putting herself out there and asking for help is another new challenge for Christine, she has charged ahead. She visited the Respite Center to see firsthand what services it provides. The Center provides “emotional and physical support for individuals with disabilities and their families.” Her visit was “very eye-opening”. The Center serves families who have been through many challenges and will have challenges ahead of them for the rest of their lives. The Respite Center gives these families a sense of normalcy that most people take for granted. With the help of the Center, parents can have a much-needed afternoon to themselves; a child can have their first sleepover. The Center makes milestones, like parents receiving the first piece of artwork their child made, possible. The effect the Center has on families and the community is profound. Christine is honored and proud to help this incredible organization while she participates in something she loves. Christine explains, “it is a privilege.”

Christine is training hard as she is entering a season of training for ultra-distances (including 100 miles which she has never run before).

“I trust the training so far and believe so much in what the Respite Center is doing. On this occasion, the most important task will be to run with heart. And that’s my best thing.”

We will be cheering for Christine at the marathon! If you want to learn more about the Michael Lisnow Respite Center, you can check out the link here: https://www.hopkintonrespite.org/.
